It’s “Dine and Discover Queens” time! “Dine and Discover Queens” is a monthly spotlight on some of the best food and drink options from around the borough! This month, we are featuring Eddie Sosa, owner of Sosa’s Sandwich Shop, a restaurant offering delicious and creative sandwiches. To learn more, go to https://sosassandwichshop.com/.

What inspired the creation of your restaurant, and how did you get your start?

I left my career as a Local 3 elevator technician when a sandwich took on a life of its own and set into motion a journey I did not anticipate. Then my life stories started to come out in my food. Then a customer at a food festival gave me humbling words of praise, and the concept for Sosa's Sandwich Shop was born.

Can you share any memorable moments or experiences you've had as a restaurant owner in Queens?

There was a time when I was trying to partner with another restaurant to open my business in their location. I had closed their pizzeria to do construction in the restaurant and get it ready to open. While there, I had the humbling honor to have people from my social media show up to just say hello. It felt great to have so many people show up to support even before I opened.

Are there dishes or drinks that have become beloved by the Queens community, or anything on your menu you would like to highlight?

That Cuban (my take on a cubano), The Jamaica Ave (my take on a classic), and The Arthur Ave (my homage to Dominicks on Arthur Avenue) are my top sandwiches so far. I make drinks as well and am seeing a big reaction to my Hibiscus Ginger Lemonade that people are excited about.
